TAYLOR NAMED TENNESSEAN OF THE YEAR

Seven-time Grammy winner Taylor Swift has been named Tennessean of the Year for 2013 by Nashville’s The Tennessean newspaper.

In a December 29th front page story, the paper writes that “Swift has become a worldwide ambassador for Tennessee’s capital city, an example to millions of young (and not-so-young) people…and a financial booster to some of the city’s most important institutions.”

“She’s one of the most dynamic and popular musical performers in the world, and she’s perceived as having universal appeal across categories. She transcends genres, and that’s a great thing for the city,” said Nashville Mayor Karl Dean.

The honor is awarded annually to “the person who has made the most exceptional contribution to the lives of Tennesseans this year,” and is determined by the paper’s editorial board, based on reader nominations. Past winners include a cross-section of scientists, physicians, political leaders, and entertainers.

In addition, Taylor has again been lauded as the world’s most charitable celebrity, coming in at #1 on DoSomething.org’s annual “Celebs Gone Good” list for the second year in a row. The list ranks celebrities “making positive impact and showing generosity.”
